Also, what about the whole “modal fabric is it toxic” debate? In a separate industry, modal is often marketed as eco-friendly, but manufacturing processes can involve chemicals. The lesson is the same: cheaper processes often externalize costs—environmental or health risks. With Pertex, the performance claims are transparent and backed by third-party testing (which is exactly what the FTC requires for substantiation).

The Verdict: Invest in Value, Not Just Price

I’m not a Pertex fanboy. There are times I’ve chosen other fabrics—Cordura for abrasion areas, or even a good duck twill for non-technical workwear. But when the spec demands real performance, paying a dollar extra per yard now saves me ten dollars later. Period.

So next time you’re comparing quotes for a production run, don’t just look at the unit price. Look at the hidden costs: rework, reject rates, shipping delays, customer trust. The cheapest fabric is the one you never have to replace. For me, that’s Pertex.
